Attendance
Students must register in person with their form tutor by 8:45am each day. For Year 13 students, this applies to Monday, Tuesday and Friday because mentoring takes place on Wednesday and Thursday – they will only be expected in on dates agreed in advance with their tutor but their attendance to these mentoring sessions is compulsory. Attendance will also be electronically recorded at every lesson at both SGA and RCT, and a central Record of Attendance is kept for every student in the Sixth Form.
Attendance is expected at all timetabled lessons.
If you take time out of school for a medical/dental appointment, university open day, driving test, interview, work experience or a sporting activity, which has not been arranged through the school, you must collect an absence form from Mrs Hirst and return it fully completed before your absence. This form will need to be signed by your teachers and parent/carer. This ensures that your subject teachers are aware, in advance, of your absence from their lesson. Students cannot miss timetabled sessions for a driving lesson – this would be an unauthorised absence, but students can have absence authorised for a driving test.
If you have a genuine reason for an ‘on the day’ absence, you must email Mrs Hirst and your subject teacher(s) to let them know you won’t be in, with a brief reason as to why. Your absence must also be confirmed by your parent/carer via the MCAS app.
Missing tutorials and/or lessons, without following these procedures, will result in you having to make up the time so it is essential that you follow the procedures in place.
It is important to note that most references for employers/Higher Education require data about attendance and punctuality. It is therefore essential to maintain an excellent attendance record that we may refer to upon any requests for a reference on your behalf.
Attendance and punctuality is carefully monitored and intervention will take place if it gives us cause for concern including escalation via the sixth form disciplinary code where necessary.
